From Mexico City to Toronto gratitude is all that MC Sulek is feeling. He is grateful to all those who have supported him, believed in him and encouraged him through this journey. His efforts are not going unnoticed as he is now working with certified gold and platinum record producer Medylandia. He feels blessed being in the same room with a producer at that level who brings out the best in him. When creating they just vibe together, he says sometimes it starts off with a sound, a word, or a theme. MC Sulek is ready to carry on the Reggaeton wave not only in Toronto but across the world.

What first got you into music?

I fell in love with music from a very young age. I think it has to do with how music can bring people together, from different cultures, languages, religion, etc. Anybody can understand the language of music.

Who inspired you to make music?

All the people that can relate to my music. All the people that appreciate my craft and of course my family. Those are the people that inspire me.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

I like to describe my music as Latin Urban. It’s a fusion of the sounds that I enjoy the most, r&b, afrobeats, and pop music.

Who would you most like to collaborate with?

This is such a hard question as there is more than one artist I would love to work with, but for sure I have my top three. 50 cent is on my list as he is the artist I grew up listening to, and we live in an era where music has no barriers. Lenny Tavarez and Rauw Alejandro are two Latin artists that are killing the game right now so they’re also on my list.

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?

J Balvin could be a really cool experience. Seeing the amount of production he puts on his shows, it could be a learning experience.

Do you sing in the shower?

Of course! All the time! I have to put on a show for my imaginary fans. It really depends on the mood but some of my go to artists are Frank Ocean, Rosalia, Rauw Alejandro, Ryan Leslie, Michael Jackson, and the list goes on.

What would you be doing right now, if it wasn’t for your music career?

I don’t think I would be doing something else. I mean I have a diploma in Sound Engineering and another diploma in Entertainment Management, so I think I would be doing something related to the entertainment business.

Where have you performed?

I have been blessed to be able to perform all across Toronto. From the well known Latin night clubs to the heart of Toronto (Dundas Square). One of my favorite shows was my last show which happened at MOD club. I had been to that venue before and the moment I stepped in, I fell in love with it.

How do you feel the internet has impacted the music business?

There are pros and cons when it comes to the digital world. One thing i'm gonna say is, thanks to the internet music is now more accessible anywhere in the world and that's a really good thing for independent artists like myself.

What is your favorite song to perform?

All of my songs are my favorite but when I perform AHI the interaction with my fans is amazing. AHI is just an easy word for non Spanish speaking people so it's easy to interact with them too.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

You gotta believe in yourself before anyone else does.

If you could change anything about the industry, what would it be?

Like I said before, I think music it's in a really good spot specially because of the diversity that we hear, but one thing I would change would be that labels (Major) focus more on the talent than just the monetary value they see in an artist. So many artists out there that become famous because of the dumbest things and people that actually have talent and work their asses off, we barely survive from what we love.
