Musical Messenger, TeePolo Aims to Spread Positivity with Her Music

From Jamaica to Canada TeePolo is a Reggae, Fusion, Dancehall singer songwriter. Her love for music is what got her to pursue it as a career. Her music delivers a message and her goal is to impact people positively.

What first got you into music?

My love for music led me to pursue it, seeing how impactful it is or can be.

Who are your musical inspirations?

Just to name a few, Popcaan, Jah Vinci, Wiz Kid but I do listen to every and any music I can relate to in some way or another.

What do you hope to achieve in the next 5 years?

Attaining self-fulfillment as it relates to but not limited to being financially and mentally stable, having a successful music career and business.

What’s your ultimate goal in the music industry?

Successfully reaching all ears and positively impacting the people who listen is definitely an ultimate goal. In all of my music, there is a message to be delivered, music can heal but only if we allow it.

Are there any social issues that you are passionate about? If so, would you like to share them?

Poverty, child abuse, gender inequality. I wish I could help everyone unfortunately I can't but each one helps one. I have my own non-profitable charitable foundation ECC/Every child counts, geared towards creating a nurturing atmosphere and bringing social awareness surrounding the issues being faced.

Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety? If so, how do you deal with it??

I definitely have, praying before a show does it for me, after praying I forgot why I was even having anxiety I just get lost up there.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music?

Yes, I love competitive shooting and will get back into that any minute now, I also love helping people. I spend a lot of time giving back where and when I can.

What is your favourite and least favourite part about being an artist?

I love connecting with people through my music, I love when someone says "hey your song helped me to get through this situation". Least favourite? I find joy even in the bad, what's life without challenges. No journey is paved with all gold, there will be difficulties however you take it.

Which unique competitive qualities do you think you possess as an artist?

I'd definitely say my ability to just keep going, the fact that I place no limits on myself as where there is a limit there is an ending. I'm self-driven and motivated and always see the need to go for more and be better than the person I was yesterday.

What is the story behind your artist’s name?

Tee is a shortening for my name Tamika and the Polo stemmed from my love for the brand, so there you have it TeePolo amazing right? lol.

How do you feel the internet has impacted the music industry?

You see, the internet is a tool and we have the option of using it for both good and bad. The internet today has aided in the development of increasing the visibility of artists, and allowing us to reach a wider audience. Now artists should not heavily rely on just the internet/social media. There are life lessons to be learned from face to face engagements, experiences and beautiful connections.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?

"Don't be afraid to tell your message, it is your experience, it's not wrong or right. There is always someone who wants to hear it"

If you were not an artist, what career would you choose?

I would definitely be doing some form of business, that's what I'm about when I'm not doing music. Even though I can't imagine not being surrounded by music to be honest. I recently just launched my own clothing line "Dapper & Trends". I also would be working some more with youths somewhat mentoring. I just always see the need to help, standing up for the people who can't stand up for themselves and that's something I'm passionate about.
